Methodology
The IPSWAM programme developed an integrated planning for sustainable water resources management methodology. This methodology consisting of six steps has been prepared for use in the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) on the basis of the large experience from ongoing and finalised projects. From previous experience it could be concluded that in order to make the BWDB’s activities sustainable it has to ensure people’s participation in all stages of the water resources infrastructure rehabilitation process (selection, planning, implementation, operation and maintenance [O&M], and monitoring and evaluation [M&E]). Therefore participation of stakeholders forms the core of the methodology for the rehabilitation and sustainable operation and maintenance of existing flood control and drainage projects.
